To ask the Secretary of State for the Environment whether his Department has discontinued(a) the collection or (b) the publication of any statistics since 1979.

The statistics collected by all Government Departments are subject to regular and searching reviews, as a result of which some surveys are eliminated and many are substantially modified.

The following are the major published statistical series that have been dropped or introduced by my Department since 1979.

  • Local authority expenditure budget estimates (at November prices).
