HC Deb 14 November 1989 vol 160 c229W
89. Mr. McAllion

To ask the Secretary of State for Education and Science if he will make a statement on arrangements for the co-ordination of research into the global environment.

109. Mr. James Lamond

To ask the Secretary of State for Education and Science if he is responsible for the co-ordination of research into the global environment.

Mr. Jackson

Research into the global environment embraces a wide range of work supported by the research councils and a number of other agencies. A correspondingly wide range of co-ordinating arrangements exist, at scientific level; between scientists, the research councils or other supporting agencies, and relevant Government Departments, and internationally. In the light of the pace of developments in this field, both in the United Kingdom and abroad, co-ordination arrangements are kept under regular review. As part of this process, consideration is currently being given to the creation of improved mechanisms for co-ordination.
