HC Deb 14 November 1989 vol 160 c226W
54. Mr. Nigel Griffiths

To ask the Secretary of State for Education and Science what response he has made to the proposal for co-operation in an International Institute for Astrophysics by all the major countries, in the earliest stages of formulating programmes in astrophysical research, which would be beyond the resources of any one group of nations.

83. Mr. Maxton

To ask the Secretary of State for Education and Science what support he is giving to the proposal inNature on 22 June for an international institute for astrophysics, put forward by a group of astrophysicists from the United States of America, the Soviet Union, Japan and Europe.

Mr. Jackson

I have read with interest the proposal for an international institute of astrophysics, contained in the 22 June 1989 edition ofNature. As yet, however, this proposal is still being discussed among scientists and so does not yet call for a Government response.
