To ask the Secretary of State for the Environment what is the total budget for urban programmes for the year 1989–90; and what amounts of urban programme aid have been allocated to each of the 57 qualifying authorities for the year to date.

The total provision for the urban programme in 1989–90 is £260 million. A total of £246 million was allocated to local authorities—and district health authorities within those areas. The remainder was topsliced for the Merseyside special allocation, residual traditional urban programme commitments, low attaining pupils programme and research. The local authority allocations are as follows:
