HC Deb 13 November 1989 vol 160 c61W
Mr. Parry

To ask the Secretary of State for Scotland what steps Her Majesty's Government are taking to reduce unemployment in the construction industry in Scotland.

Mr. Lang

There are no employment measures specifically directed at the construction industry in Scotland. The Government aim to help all unemployed people take advantage of the opportunities that exist through job clubs, job start, restart and travel-to-interview schemes. As part of their usual services, jobcentres display vacancies for all industries. In addition, employment training enables unemployed people to gain and update the skills they need to compete in the labour market.
