Mr. Ralph Howell

To ask the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food what are the regulations and procedures for testing for salmonella in(a) eggs and (b) poultry flocks (i) in Britain and (ii) of eggs imported into Britain and the flocks from whence they came; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. Maclean

The requirements for testing for salmonella in Great Britain are set out in the orders made under the Animal Health Act 1981 which came into effect on 26 October 1989. In relation to imports, I refer my hon. Friend to the reply given to the hon. Member for East Lothian (Mr. Home Robertson) on 1 November,Official Report, column 210.
