HC Deb 13 November 1989 vol 160 cc50-1W
Mr. Hannam

To ask the Secretary of State for Social Security what guidance he has issued to his Department's local offices regarding eligibility of disabled 16 and 17-years-olds for income support.

Mr. Scott

Guidance is contained in the adjudication officer's guide. A copy is available in the Library.

Mr. Hannam

To ask the Secretary of State for Social Security what steps he is taking to improve training to local social security offices on benefits available to disabled young people.

Mr. Scott

All local offices have staff trained to answer inquiries and give advice about social security benefits for the disabled, including disabled young people. Training material is regularly reviewed, revised and updated to take account of changes and improvements to disability benefits. If my hon. Friend has a particular case in mind perhaps he would write to me.
