To ask the Secretary of State for Scotland what instructions he has given to Lothian health board about awarding Health Service catering contracts to outside contractors.

To ask the Secretary of State for Scotland what is his policy towards sending in auditors to examine the workings of health boards which have awarded in-house contracts.

Mr. Michael Forsyth

As with any area of health board expenditure, the procedures governing the award of contracts may be the subject of examination at any time by the statutory auditor.
