HC Deb 09 November 1989 vol 159 c749W
Mr. Parry

To ask the Secretary of State for Health if he will now support an out of court compensation scheme to alleviate the physical and financial distress of families of haemophiliacs who have contracted AIDS through National Health Service treatment.

Mr. Freeman

The Government have already provided an ex gratia payment of £10 million to set up the Macfarlane Trust to meet the special needs of haemophiliacs infected with HIV and their dependants. Claims for compensation are now being pursued through the courts and I am advised these matters are sub judice.
