To ask the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food if he will make a statement about his priorities for food safety.

Mr. Maclean

The Government's priorities for food safety were set out in the recent White Paper "Food Safety —Protecting The Consumer" (CM. 732). The Bill to be introduced as soon as the parliamentary timetable permits is a major priority.

My Department plays a key role and takes whatever means are necessary to protect food from contamination by radioactivity.
