HC Deb 07 November 1989 vol 159 cc527-8W
Ms. Short

To ask the Secretary of State for Social Security if when unemployed claimants take advantage of employment on trial and subsequently leave the job within the period in which they are allowed to without being held to be voluntarily unemployed transitional protection received during the previous claim will be reinstated in full if they are home owners who were receiving full help with their mortgage interest payments, will these be reinstated in full; and if he will make a statement.

Mrs. Gillian Shephard

Yes, providing the claimant satisfies the conditions for employment on trial for unemployment benefit purposes. We have also ensured that people who undertake employment for a trial period will continue to receive the higher earnings disregard, and similar concessions have been made available to people, such as lone parents, who are not required to be available for employment.
