HC Deb 07 November 1989 vol 159 c562W
61. Dame Jill Knight

To ask the Secretary of State for Health if he will take steps to ensure that normal National Health Service ancillary health care shall be available to residents in private old persons' homes without a charge being made.

Mr. Freeman

Responsibility for providing community health services, including services to people in private and voluntary residential care homes, rest with district health authorities. There is no power to charge for such services.

Authorities have to plan and provide their services within the resources available in accordance with guidance issued by the Secretary of State. Their performance is monitored through the annual accountability and review process.
