Mr. Orme

To ask the Secretary of State for Transport what discussions he has had, and what representations have been made to him, to rectify the overcrowding in the Wembley tube station tunnel at Wembley way during football matches and pop concerts.

Mr. Peter Bottomley

The tunnel in question is the direct responsibility of Wembley Stadium plc. The Department has been discussing with the London borough of Brent a scheme to replace the tunnel. Wembley Stadium plc along with the Metropolitan and British Transport police, London Underground Ltd. and officers from Brent council liaise closely not only on the day of events by additionally on a six-weekly basis throughout the year.
