To ask the Secretary of State for Employment whether he has plans to increase the numbers in employment in the coalfield communities of north Derbyshire; and if he will make a statement.

My Department operates a wide range of employment, enterprise and training measures, which are all available in north Derbyshire as elsewhere, and which are helping to increase the numbers in employment.

During the 12 months to March 1989 unemployment in Derbyshire fell by 10,183, 24.2 per cent. of the March 1988 figure.
