HC Deb 15 May 1989 vol 153 c63W
Dr. David Clark

To ask the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food what information he has received from the New Zealand Government on their inquiry into dioxins and food packaging; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. Donald Thompson

I have seen the announcement by the New Zealand Government stating that the levels of dioxin found in samples of cartoned milk there are not considered a risk for milk drinkers.

Dr. David Clark

To ask the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food if he is now in a position to publish his report on the investigations into dioxins and food; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. Ryder

The results of the work on dioxins in food carried out at my Ministry's food science laboratory will be made available shortly.

Dr. David Clark

To ask the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food what meetings he has had with the manufacturers of paper milk cartons on the subject of dioxins in milk; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. Ryder

None. My officials are in close contact with manufacturers on this issue and they are being kept in touch with developments.
