HC Deb 12 May 1989 vol 152 c546W
Mr. Fraser

To ask the Attorney-General what changes he proposes in the use of rateable values as indications of jurisdiction in county court cases.

The Attorney-General

As part of the Government's programme for implementation of the civil justice review, announced on 6 April, the upper financial limit of the county courts' jurisdiction in actions for the recovery of land will be removed. Arrangements will be made for any transitional period there might be between the abolition of the domestic rating system and that of the county court limit, if this proves necessary.

In some cases, however, it will still be necessary for the substance of a claim to be quantified, and various options are being considered by the Lord Chancellor.
