HL Deb 03 May 1989 vol 507 cc251-2WA
The Marquess of Ailesbury

asked Her Majesty's Government:

To what extent small scale and largely unpublicised industrial action is now a regular feature of the London postal service; and whether the situation is improving or deteriorating.

Lord Strathclyde

Industrial action by postal workers is a matter for Post Office management and employees. However, the Post Office has informed me that in the London numbered postal districts during the six months to end March 1989, 1,135 man days were lost as a result of strikes and 27 offices were affected by some form of industrial action. In the same period in 1987–88, 3,455 man days were lost and 18 offices were affected by some form of industrial action.
