§ Mr. RidleyThere is only one research institute operated on behalf of my Department. This is the Building Research Establishment (which incorporates the fire research station). Most of BRE is situated in the south east, but it does have a Scottish laboratory in East Kilbride. On 1 April 1989, 654 staff were employed at BRE.
