§ Mr. Michael ForsythThe number of children in local authority nursery schools and the number of children under five in all local authority schools in September 1987 expressed as percentages of 3 and 4-year-olds in the population were 31.0 and 38.7 respectively. It is estimated 19W that when those attending pre-school playgroups and day nurseries are included about 80 per cent. of 3 and 4-year-olds were involved.
