To ask the Secretary of State for Education and Science what is the current percentage of children of pre-school age currently enrolled in state-run pre-school education in England.

In January 1988 the number of pupils under five on roll in maintained nursery and primary schools in England as a percentage of the estimated three and four-year-old population was as follows:
