To ask the Secretary of State for Scotland what was the total expenditure by each Department and Government-funded health education agency on mass media advertising on(a) smoking, (b) alcohol, (c) dental health, (d) drugs, (e) AIDS, (f) family planning, (g) immunisation, (h) coronary heart disease, (i) the "be all you can campaign" and (j) and any other health campaign in each year from 1978–79 to 1987–88.

In Scotland national health education is the responsibility of the Scottish Health Education Group. It is not possible to identify separately mass media advertising costs, but the following table gives details of expenditure by the group in the areas shown.
