HC Deb 02 May 1989 vol 152 c82W
Sir John Farr

To ask the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food if he will take steps to introduce a ban on all imports of deer until satisfactory tests are available.

Mr. Donald Thompson

The issue of import licences for deer has been suspended. The tuberculosis testing requirements of deer in isolation, both in exporting countries and after their arrival in Great Britain, are being reviewed.

Sir John Farr

To ask the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food if he will take steps to introduce a programme of free testing of deer for tuberculosis, and slaughter, with compensation for infected animals.

Mr. Donald Thompson

I have nothing further to add to my reply to my hon. Friend of 15 March 1989 at column248.
