HL Deb 02 May 1989 vol 507 cc137-8WA
Lord Graham of Edmonton

asked Her Majesty's Government:

Why the British delegation to the recent Conference on Security and Co-operation in Europe held in London excluded any representatives of the trade unions whose members are involved in the collection and dissemination of news and information on current affairs and cultural matters.

The Minister of State, Foreign and Commonwealth Office (Lord Glenarthur)

Invitations to join the British delegation to the London Information Forum were issued to a large number of people, with a view to constituting a balanced and representative team bringing appropriate expertise to a wide agenda. The delegation includes several journalists. The formation of the delegation was preceded by consultations attended by numerous organisations. The TUC failed to respond to the department's invitation to participate in these consultations or supply comments.
