§ Mr. Douglas HoggNo. It is for each electoral registration officer to decide how best to discharge his statutory duty to have a house-to-house or other sufficient inquiry made as to the persons entitled to be registered. Home Office guidance to electoral registration officers, issued last August, draws attention to their right to inspect the community charge register and the possibility thereby of improving the accuracy of the electoral register.
