Mr. Sheerman

To ask the Secretary of State for the Home Department (1) how many complaints as defined under section 84/4 of the Police and Criminal Evidence Act 1984 were recorded under section 9 in the discipline code in 1985, 1986, 1987 and 1988; how many of those complaints were formally investigated; and how many of those investigated were substantiated;

(2) how many internal investigations were carried out by the United Kingdom police forces in 1985, 1986, 1987 and 1988 which related to section 9 of the discipline code; and how many of those were found to be substantiated.
