HC Deb 22 March 1989 vol 149 c596W
Ms. Ruddock

To ask the Secretary of State for Transport (1) if he will make it his policy to re-evaluate the suitability of the HS 748 Andover aircraft for the air freighting of plutonium to European destinations;

(2) what studies have been made by his Department of the suitability and safety of (a) Prestwick, (b) Carlisle, (c) Bournemouth Hum, (d) Dounreay and (e) Wick airports for the air freighting of commercial plutonium from the United Kingdom.

Mr. Peter Bottomley

All movements of radioactive materials by air must comply with national and international regulations which require safety to be built into the package design and do not depend for their effectiveness on the use of a particular type of aircraft or choice of airport.
