To ask the Secretary of State for Scotland if he will list all water supplies in Scotland that are in breach of the EEC directive on water quality in respect of safety limits in lead in drinking water; and if he will make a statement.

The water supplies concerned are listed in the table. Improvement work is in hand for all these supplies and in most cases will be completed by the end of this year. Of the remaining 17 supplies, all in Strathclyde and Lothian regions, 15 are expected to comply with the EC limit not later than mid-1991 and two major schemes, of which lead remedial work is only a part, will extend into 1992.
