To ask the Secretary of State for Northern Ireland what information is available to indicate the category A expenditure admitted for each of the voluntary grammar schools in Northern Ireland for the current school year and the last school year.

To ask the Secretary of State for Northern Ireland if he will make a statement indicating the basis for the figures given in theOfficial Report, columns 39–40 to indicate pupil numbers and category B grants for each of the voluntary grammar schools in Northern Ireland.

Dr. Mawhinney

Category B grants are based on the levels of approved expenditure in previous years adjusted to take account of both pay and price increases and the skewing of resources in favour of the relatively low spending schools. Category B grants are calculated in relation to the number of non-fee-paying pupils only, details of which are provided by individual schools.
