To ask the Secretary of State for Wales how many new patients per million population in Wales received (i) haemodialysis and (ii) continuous ambulatory peritoneal dialysis in 1988 or the most recent year for which figures are available.

The number of new patients receiving renal dialysis in Wales in 1988 was 71.2 per million population. The proportional contribution of each dialysis mode was as follows:

Home haemodialysis 18.3 per cent.
Hospital haemodialysis 31.0 per cent.
Continuous ambulatory peritoneal dialysis 50.7 per cent.
