§ Mrs. Virginia BottomleyAnyone wishing to import these turtles into the United Kingdom is already required to obtain a licence under the Endangered Species (Import and Export) Act 1976. We are satisfied that trade does not at present pose any threat to the survival of the species, and it is therefore generally permitted. However, it is and will continue to be carefully monitored so that, if necessary, stricter controls can be introduced to ensure that the animals do not become endangered in the wild.
