HL Deb 16 March 1989 vol 505 cc446-7WA
Lord Monkswell

asked Her Majesty's Government:

How much it would cost to ensure that every old age pensioner living in the city of Manchester received an increased income of 7.5 per cent. in 1989 compared with 1988.

The Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State, Department of Social Security (Lord Skelmersdale)

I regret that the information requested is not available. The Government collect statistics relating to retirement pension by country of residence.

Lord Monkswell

asked Her Majesty's Government:

How many old age pensioners living in the city of Manchester and eligible for income support will receive no increase in income in 1989 compared with 1988.

Lord Skelmersdale

Statistics on Income Support Transitional Protection are obtained through the Annual Statistical Enquiries which follow uprating exercises and are based on an examination of 1 per cent. of cases in receipt of benefit. The 1989 inquiry will be held in May and the information from this is necessarily not yet available.
