HC Deb 14 March 1989 vol 149 cc185-6W
20. Mr. Quentin Davies

To ask the Secretary of State for Employment how many people are undertaking training on employment training; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. Fowler

The number of people on employment training at 24 February 1989 was 157,000. This is a tremendous achievement after only six months of the programme's operation and reflects the great interest shown by unemployed people in getting high-quality training to help them back into a job.

157. Mr. Kennedy

To ask the Secretary of State for Employment if he will give figures for the current percentage take-up rate under employment training; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. Nicholls

Information about the take-up rate under employment training is not available. It is not possible to estimate the total number of people in the employment training client group. There are currently over 157,000 on employment training. This is a heartening response by unemployed people who clearly acknowledge that the programme's provision of quality training will be a great help in their efforts to find work.
