HC Deb 14 March 1989 vol 149 cc200-1W
147. Mr. Ashley

To ask the Secretary of State for Employment from which sources he derives information about the number and proportion of disabled people of working age who are unemployed; and what is the latest information provided by these sources.

Mr. Lee

The only count made of unemployed people with disabilities is of those who choose to register for work at jobcentres and careers offices. The latest figures available show that on 6 January 1989 there were 50,219 unemployed people with disabilities registered for work at jobcentres and careers offices. There is no count made of the total number of people with disabilities of working age.
