HC Deb 13 March 1989 vol 149 c83W
Dr. David Clark

To ask the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food what action he is taking to prevent salmonella contamination in imported feedstuffs containing vegetable matter; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. Donald Thompson

A very small proportion of compound animal feedingstuffs is imported. The majority of imports comprise raw materials including vegetable protein which are incorporated into feedingstuffs. Detailed codes of practice will be introduced shortly for the control of salmonella in feedingstuffs and their ingredients, including measures for monitoring.
