HC Deb 13 March 1989 vol 149 c56W
Mr. Frank Field

To ask the Secretary of State for Employment whether the computer paying unemployment benefit is programmed to draw to the attention of those claimants whose benefit is about to expire the need to make a separate claim for income support.

Mr. Lee

The unemployment benefit computer is programmed to notify claimants automatically of their right to claim income support. A letter is normally sent two weeks before entitlement to unemployment benefit is due to exhaust allowing a claim for income support to be made before payment stops.
