HC Deb 13 March 1989 vol 149 c15W
Mr. David Porter

To ask the Secretary of State for Education and Science what plans he has for drama as an educational tool in the national curriculum for children in(a) primary, (b) middle and (c) high/secondary schools.

Mrs. Rumbold

Drama has an important part to play both as an element contributing to various national curriculum subjects and as a non-foundation subject in its own right. It is included in the terms of reference of the national curriculum English working group in connection with dramatic works of literature and as a medium for the development of a range of oral skills. These aspects will be taken into account in the development of the relevant national curriculum statutory orders.
