HC Deb 13 March 1989 vol 149 c12W
Mr. Pike

To ask the Secretary of State for Education and Science what savings it is estimated will arise from the closure of the Cambridge university veterinary school.

Mr. Jackson

The rationalisation recommendations of the University Grants Committee's review of veterinary education, currently out for consultation, do not envisage net savings. The intention is to strengthen existing national provision by making yet more effective use of existing resources.

Mr. Pike

To ask the Secretary of State for Education and Science what representations he has received regarding the proposed closure of the Cambridge university veterinary school.

Mr. Jackson

I refer the hon. Member to the Answer I gave the hon. Member for St. Helens South (Mr. Bermingham) on 6 March at column 397.
