HL Deb 13 March 1989 vol 505 cc74-5WA
Lord Moran

asked Her Majesty's Government:

How the further consultations referred to by Baroness Trumpington in the answer to a written question on 14th November 1988 (HL Deb. col. 907) are progressing, and whether a decision on the 24 proposed nursery areas for bass can be expected soon.

Baroness Trumpington

As I indicated in my reply on 14th Novemeber 1988, it has been necessary to give much thought to the delineation of nursery areas for protecting juvenile bass stocks and to the restrictions on fishing applying within them following the response to the consultative proposals published on 29th February 1988. We expect to issue revised proposals shortly as a basis for further consultations with commercial and recreational fishermen. Final decisions on the establishment of nursery areas will then be taken in the light of these consultations.
