HC Deb 10 March 1989 vol 148 c51W
Mr. Wray

To ask the Secretary of State for the Environment what steps Her Majesty's Government are taking to stop the Antarctic being used as a dumping ground for toxic waste.

Mrs. Virginia Bottomley

The Government are actively supporting a proposal, in the negotiation of a global convention on the transboundary movement of hazardous waste, to prohibit the export of such waste for disposal in Antarctica.
