HC Deb 10 March 1989 vol 148 c31W
Mr. Beggs

To ask the Secretary of State for Northern Ireland how many construction jobs exist presently at Kilroot power station site, Carrickfergus; and for how long these jobs are expected to continue.

Mr. Viggers

About 500. This number is expected to fall to about 90 by the end of March 1989 as the project nears completion.

Mr. Beggs

To ask the Secretary of State for Northern Ireland whether a decision has been taken to defer the start of conversion of phase two at Kilroot power station, Carrickfergus; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. Viggers

No. No decision has been taken as to the start date of the project. The matter is still under consideration.

Mr. Beggs

To ask the Secretary of State for Northern Ireland what is the proposed start date for construction of phase two at Kilroot power station, Carrickfergus.

Mr. Viggers

The starting date for the construction of the Kilroot II is presently under consideration. The new capacity will be needed by 1995–96 and construction would have to begin by 1992 at the latest in order to meet that requirement.
