HC Deb 10 March 1989 vol 148 c22W
Mr. Wray

To ask the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs what recent assurances he has received from his counterpart in the United States of America that the current policies of Her Majesty's Government and the European Community towards Iran, the middle east and against terrorism will not be undermined by negotiations or arms trade between that country and Iran.

Mr. Waldegrave

This is a matter for the United States Government. We welcome the strong support from President Bush on 21 February for the actions taken by the Twelve, in response to Iranian threats against Mr. Salman Rushdie and his publishers.
