To ask the Chancellor of the Exchequer how many executive and clerical posts have been transferred in the Inland Revenue out of London and the south-east as a result of the move of work from tax offices to other regions; and how many posts have been created in each region as a consequence.

[holding answer 21 February 1989]: The Inland Revenue currently has 4,664 clerical posts and 339 more senior posts in the provinces to deal with work moved from tax offices in London and the south-east in the last 30 years. The distribution of those posts is as follows:
