To ask the Secretary of State for Energy what was the increase in electricity prices in 1988; and what estimate he has of any further increase on the current year.

Mr. Michael Spicer

The increase in electricity prices in 1988 was 8.6 per cent. The electricity industry will be announcing next month the increase to take effect from 1 April 1989.
