To ask the Secretary of State for the Home Department if he will make a statement on the figures for reported crime in Bury for 1988.

Mr. John Patten

I understand from the chief constable of the Greater Manchester police force that some 12,500 crimes were recorded in Bury in 1988, 4 per cent. fewer than in 1987.
