HC Deb 10 March 1989 vol 148 cc27-8W
Mr. Butterfill

To ask the Chancellor of the Exchequer what was the total amount of corporation tax paid by private companies in the United Kingdom for each of the last five years.

Mr. Norman Lamont

Payments of corporation tax excluding those made by public corporations were as follows:

£ billion
1983–84 6.1
1984–85 8.2
1985–86 10.5
1986–7 13.4
1987–88 15.6

If the hon. Member also has in mind the exclusion of payments by public limited companies (and their associates or subsidiaries), I regret that the information on which to base an estimate is not available centrally.
