§ Mr. John PattenThe Drug Trafficking Offences Act 1986 empowers the Crown court to make a confiscation order against a person convicted of a drug trafficking offence as defined in section 38(1) of the Act. Section 71 of the Criminal Justice Act, which is expected to come into force on 3 April 1989, gives a similar power to the Crown court in respect of other indictable offences, and to both the Crown court and magistrates' courts in respect of summary offences listed in schedule 4 to the Act.
