To ask the Secretary of State for Northern Ireland whether, in his consideration of legislative proposals to deal with discrimination in Northern Ireland, attention was given to problems of discrimination on grounds of age, disability or ethnicity; and if he will make a statement.

[holding answer 3 March 1989]: The Government's consultative paper on equality of opportunity in employment in Northern Ireland considered whether combined legislative and other measures should be taken on discrimination on grounds of religion, sex and disability. In the light of responses received, however, the Government decided that legislative action should concentrate on religious equality of opportunity.
