To ask the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs how environmental factors are assessed in consideration of overseas aid projects.

Mr. Chris Patten

All programme managers in the Overseas Development Administration are required to ensure the environmental soundness of projects. A manual is being published this week to help them to do this. I shall place a copy in the Library.
