HC Deb 02 March 1989 vol 148 cc267-8W
56. Dr. Twinn

To ask the Secretary of State for the Home Department what progress his Department is making against crime in Greater London.

Mr. John Patten

In the 12 months ending September 1988 there was a decrease of 1 per cent. in total recorded crime in the Metropolitan police district, compared with the corresponding period to September 1987. In particular motor vehicle theft decreased by 8 per cent., theft from the person decreased by 7 per cent. and residential burglary decreased by 3 per cent. These figures are an encouraging indication of the success of a range of crime prevention measures.
