HC Deb 28 June 1989 vol 155 cc468-9W
Mr. John Evans

To ask the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food what representations he has received concerning the decline in commercial forestry planting levels in England and Wales.

Mr. MacGregor

During the last six months I have received nine representations about the possible effects on planting levels of the forestry taxation changes introduced in the 1988 Budget. Some of these were general comments, while others referred to the problems of woodland maintenance and the difficulties faced by forest nurseries. None of the representations referred specifically to a decline in commercial forestry planting levels in England.

The situation in Wales is a matter for my right hon. Friend the Secretary of State for Wales.
